Observations on Life - Place Names

I live in Hong Kong. The suburb that I live in is called Tsim Sha Tsui (pronounced 'Chim Cha Choy')

Nearby there is a suburb called Hung Hom yet everybody pronounces it 'Hong Hum'.

Why?
